Cybersecurity Today: A Cybersecurity Specialist’s Opinion

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month in Canada and to celebrate, we’re doing a feature of our Cybersecurity Specialist here at CCX Technologies, Zinnea Smith. Cybersecurity is essential to organizations today as cyber attacks are more frequent than ever before! Implementing security measures can ensure that important information is protected.

Check out what Zinnea has to say about the state of cybersecurity today down below!

1. Why do you think cybersecurity is so important in today’s organizations/society?

“I think cybersecurity is so important in today’s organizations/society because technology is used for nearly everything, and we need to protect our organizations/society from any potential cyber threats that may arise.”

2. What do you think is the most difficult part about being a cybersecurity specialist?

“I think the most difficult part about being a cybersecurity specialist is having to keep up with constant changes to technology and constant vulnerabilities”

3. What cyber threats are most common and why do you think that is?

“The cyber threats that are most common are phishing, DoS, malware, and ransomware attacks. I think these are most common because they all involve stealing or withholding information that is important to the victim, and this information can be used to orchestrate more attacks.”

4. What would you say are the most important practices for organizations today to adopt to protect themselves from cyber attacks?

“I would say that the most important practices for organizations to adopt to protect themselves from cyber attacks are to develop and implement cyber security policies and procedures, updating them as necessary, holding awareness and training sessions periodically for employees to keep them up to date with cyber security trends, and to develop and maintain a detailed incident response plan.”

5. What are some of the cybersecurity issues facing the aviation industry today and how is CCX Technologies helping to solve those issues?

Some of the cybersecurity issues facing the aviation industry today are data breaches and system failure. CCX Technologies is helping to solve those issues by developing secure and reliable cybersecurity appliances such as the AP-250 Cybersecurity Appliance, which helps to defend onboard vehicular networks from unauthorised access and disruption to electronic systems.”

6. What do you love most about being a cybersecurity specialist (specifically for a cybersecurity company in the aviation industry)

“What I love most about being a cybersecurity specialist, specifically for a cybersecurity company in the aviation industry, is the amount of new and exciting things I get to learn about both the security and aviation industries on a daily basis. The highlight of my year so far was attending the CANSEC trade show and getting to network with different comapnies – I even got to hold a real rocket launcher!”

7. Do you have anything else you would like to share in regards to cybersecurity?

“I would say that cybersecurity will continue to become even more relevant as technology continues to advance, and that it’s definitely an interesting industry to be a part of!”
